The Philadelphia Music Office

Born out of the Music Industry Task Force (MITF) initiative spearheaded in 2017 by members of the local Philly music industry community and city council’s support, the Philadelphia Music Office is the top priority and recommendation of the special task force.

On January 19th, 2023 City Council unanimously adopted Resolution 221042, supporting all of the MITF’s recommendations.

November, 2015

City Council passed a bill that created The Music Industry Task Force

August 12th, 2017

MITF’s initial monthly meeting takes place.

October 5th, 2017

MITF queries musicians to determine the priorities of the music community’s members.

August, 2019

MITF report and nine (9) recommendations are completed.

March 13, 2020

Hearing is scheduled to present report to City Council, but was canceled due to Covid shutdown.

October 12th 2022

World Café Live Sigma meeting - on the recommendation from Councilmen David Oh, Sigma Sound Studios preservation project be added to original 9 MITF recommendations.

December 9th, 2022

MITF finally presents to City Council’s "Committee on Global Opportunities and Creative/Innovative Economy” sub-committee and resolution is passed unanimously.

January 19th, 2022

Resolution 221042 adopting the Philadelphia Music Industry Task Force Report and Recommendations is unanimously adopted by Philadelphia City Council; with the #1 recommendation being the “establishment of an independent music office in Philadelphia”.
